Volunteer Disaster Response Communications
What we do
Mission Statement: Volunteer Disaster Response Communications is dedicated to providing communication devices and services when infrastructure is down and under repair. We believe that if you can’t communicate, you can’t help.
Why We Matter: By preparing in advance, we ensure that recovery work can be carried out effectively. Our commitment to establishing robust communication channels helps save lives and speed up the recovery process.
Who we are
Roles and Responsibilities: Our volunteers play critical roles during a disaster response by providing equipment, training, and setup. Most of our volunteers are licensed radio operators and accredited information technology technicians.
Communication Strategy
We establish communication structures in advance to be prepared for events, ensuring seamless coordination with affected communities and other emergency responders. During a disaster, we use commercial radio communications and mesh networks using LORA to maintain effective communication.
Our Focus
Our group responds to various types of disasters, including natural disasters such as fires, hurricanes, and tornadoes. We ensure that essential communication structures are established beforehand, allowing for efficient and effective disaster response.
Volunteer Onboarding
New volunteers can join our group by contacting us and sharing their skill sets. Based on their aptitude, we provide the necessary training to prepare them for their roles. Our goal is to have a well-trained and prepared team ready to respond to any disaster.
